How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My target audience is male and females ages between 16 and 21, we chose this age group because many of our school friends and peers are put in to this age category. We felt that because of our own ages we know what people like to watch when it comes to thrillers so we then could create the perfect opening title sequence for people of this age group.
Gender Representation.
All of the characters in our opening title sequence are aged between 16 and 18, this makes it easier for our target audience to relate to. The main character 'Henry' is easily relatable to in the opening title sequence because he is your everyday looking person. Henry takes a manly role and looks suspicious in some of the close up shots, fir example in a extreme close up shot of Henrys eye you can see him gaze with extreme thought in to the open, his eye shows his sadness and confusion in the sense that his distorted memory means he does not know where his wife is, or how or why she is gone. There is also a voice of Henry's wife speaking over this shot, this shows that he can not remember his past and therefor must have a blurred vision.
The letter
This letter has very feminine hand writing and is also very neat, this letter must have took a very long time to have written so the wife obviously takes care and loves her husband. We made many props throughout our opening title sequence this being one of them. I used ink and tea stains to create a old rustic look about it, it also took me a very long time to construct the letter. This also suggests to the viewer that his wife is very old fashioned because in modern day Britain no one really writes letters as technology has massively evolved. This also could suggest to us that the husband may live in a different country and that they rarely see each other.
The flashback
The flashback from the photo frame features a two shot of the protagonist and his wife, a sound effect is placed here as a transition from the dip to white edit which we used to transition to the flashback. This suggests to us that they are both clueless as to where she is and that she is vulnerable and so is he for that matter.
More Props
I made a prop of a smashed photo frame, with a photo of the hero and his wife inside. This signifies that his house has been broken into and somebody has carelessly smashed one of his possessions.
Finally, Henry, the soldier
Henry is represented as a kind family man as he reads through his wife’s letter she sent him carefully and when he looks through the photos of him and his wife, he is shown to stare at it for a very long period of time which shows that he is a loving, gentle husband
